The time was 1889, and the mayor was protesting his township’s annexation to Chicago, which needed the population to qualify for the 1893 World’s Fair.
We met Victorrio Giustino — Chicago historian, guide, archivist, lecturer, poet, writer and media commentator — while photographing a sign in his front yard on Southport. He was on his way out, but was able to spare a few minutes for this video.
The sign, which has a brief history of Lake View and its famous citizens, is one of Giustino’s efforts to familiarize Chicagoans with their past.
Our thanks to Carter for sending in a tip on the sign.
