Landmarked homes in Ukrainian Village

As other neighborhoods frenetically tear down older homes and build $1 million-plus manses, much of Ukrainian Village has gone the other way. Vast swathes of the neighborhood, including Walton Street, where these houses were photographed, have become landmarked areas over the last three or four years. The decision to landmark the neighborhood was a reaction to the condo boom in the East Village and other neighborhoods. Many of the homes are ornate brick two- and three-flats that commonly sell for between $600,000 and $700,000.
