Lombard becoming land of shopping malls?

After updating us on the fate of the DuPage Theatre, Ayesha, YoChicago’s writer in Lombard, has posed a question that could apply to all the suburbs: can you have too many shopping malls? Check out Ayesha’s excellent post on the battle of shopping mall one-upmanship playing out in her town. Come to think of it– isn’t this a battle playing out all throughout the suburbs? “On a street that is probably close to reaching its saturation point,” Ayesha writes, “Tracy Mulqueen, president of the Oakbrook Chamber of Commerce is quoted in the Daily Herald as saying that ‘more competition in the area only generates more business.’ All I know for sure is that my commute home along Butterfield Road will only get longer.”
