Loyola construction robs Rogers Park, Edgewater of lakefront park space

If you’re out for a walk on the south end of Rogers Park, as we were on Sunday, Loyola’s campus makes for possibly the best stroll in the neighborhood – quiet, clean, nice lake views. It’s an oasis in an otherwise very dense, very urban environment. We were disappointed then to find ourselves wandering through chain link fences and around bulldozers as we tried to navigate a path along the lake last weekend. At every turn we seemed to run into unmarked cul-de-sacs where construction or temporary fencing precluded our exit.

Neighborhood residents treat the Loyola campus as their own park, so the massive construction underway has depleted Rogers Park – and Edgewater, which sits immediately south – of a major amenity. Until construction is finished, you can keep up to date on the progress at Loyola’s Web site.
