Macy’s, the Grinch that stole Chicago’s Christmas

At Macy’s on State Street it’s the “Season of Light” and allusions to traditional Christmas themes have been ruthlessly purged from the window displays. You won’t hear anything you recognize as a Christmas song as you walk around the store.

It also appears that Macy’s may be treating Chicago as secondhand city. A number of the windows appear to be smaller knock-offs of windows appearing in Macy’s flagship store in New York.

Some of the Macy’s windows wouldn’t come up to the standards set by dollar store managers.

All in all, Macy’s’ windows struck me as a very shabby and dishonest effort, an insult to Chicago and a raucous Bronx cheer to the spirit of Christmas.
