Lincoln Park week here at the Yo wouldn’t be complete without some discussion of the “M” word. McMansions – new-construction single-family houses covering two and three city lots – are quietly proliferating in the neighborhood. Why quietly? According to Rubloff Residential Real Estate agent Doug Fox, who has a dozen years of experience in Lincoln Park, most of these homes are built by private owners and therefore rarely come on the market.
But Chicago Magazine writer Dennis Rodkin has unearthed a few details on what appears to be a more than a McMansion – a McMonster Mansion, if you will. The $16 million home under construction on the 1800 block of Howe Street covers three city lots and could be as big as 25,000 square feet. It’s custom designed and built, like many other large new-construction houses in Lincoln Park, by BGD&C (Bowen Group Design / Build Construction).
