Metropolitan's Laurel Park brings urban design to the suburbs

Laurel Park

Metropolitan Development Enterprises recently opened sales at Laurel Park, a community of 30 townhomes and 12 condos in downtown Highland Park, the suburb highlighted in New Homes Magazine‘s August issue. Metropolitan, whose current city developments include Rainbo Village and The Flats on LaSalle, wanted the suburban development to have an urban look. They used all masonry construction with a brick veneer, and, rather than tucking itself away in a subdivision, the development butts up to busy Laurel Avenue.
Three- and four-story townhomes come in nine designs and have three or four bedrooms, 2,966 to 5,398 square feet, an attached two-car garage, two terraces and an elevator, which has made the development popular with, ahem, “aging baby boomers,” according to Metropolitan’s VP of sales and marketing, Bruce Zimmerman. Metropolitan also plans to redesign a city park adjacent to the development.
Construction is underway on the first phase of Laurel Park, which includes 18 townhomes, and about 40 percent have sold in the first few weeks of sales. First deliveries are expected for next summer. An off-site sales center is located at 616 Laurel Ave, and prices range from the $890s to $1.5 million.
