The Medical District, on the Near West Side, has always felt a little scary. This isn’t the result of actual crime, so much as the empty feeling of blocks dominated by giant institutions. One new institution here might make people feel a little safer. The FBI yesterday dedicated its new building at 2111 W Roosevelt Rd, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune. It’s reportedly the largest stand-alone FBI field office in the country. The facility will sit 10 blocks north of the Heart of Italy neighborhood, which in the heyday of the Chicago Outfit, was the site of some conversations FBI agents would have loved to be within earshot of.
