Veto looks solid, but Chicago's big-box debate rages on

Well, today’s the day. Mayor Daley cast his first ever veto on Monday to strike down Chicago’s big-box ordinance, and word is, he’s found enough votes to foil an override vote. Over at YoChicago’s Retail forum, the debate on the big-box ordinance evolved into something fairly high-minded, focusing on the issue of federalism (with a side of foie gras). Check out the debate and cast your vote. Is the federal minimum wage too low? If it is, should a city step in to insist that a particular group of employers pay a living wage? If you insist that this is a federal issue, can we afford to wait another decade before congress helps Chicago’s working poor?
