New Haven Homes planning 7-story project in Lincoln Square

New Haven Homes is in the early planning stages for a seven-story mixed-use development in Lincoln Square, according to managing partner Keith Esses. The project, at 4876 N Lincoln Ave, will sit just to the north of Lincoln Square’s row of quaint shops.

New Haven isn’t releasing renderings at this stage, but Esses says the building will be designed by Sullivan Goulette, Ltd. with 76 condos, 9,400 square feet of commercial space and a green roof.

The site comprises four “oddly shaped” parcels of land, Esses says. The company bought the first of these from Thorek Hospital and Medical Center several years ago. He says the city’s Department of Planning and Development encouraged New Haven to buy the remaining three, with an eye to creating a “gateway” development on the north end of Lincoln Square.

Residents approved the project “almost three to one” at a neighborhood forum July 19 sponsored by Ald. Gene Schulter (47th), paving the way for rezoning of the properties, according to Esses. The Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce has also responded favorably to the project, he says. The project’s next step is to get approval from the planning department.

The proposed development sits just to the south of New Haven’s Townhomes on the Square, 31 townhomes at 4949 – 5007 N Lincoln Ave.
