No details are available for the Sunnyside and Wolcott Rowhomes on Mangan Builders’ Web site, but a rendering shows orange and dark brick for the townhouses. When we visited the construction site, at 1821 W Sunnyside Ave, the other day, the builder seemed to be going for more of a graystone effect.
The corner of Ravenswood where these new townhouses are being built has a slightly neglected feel – lawns a little less manicured and housing stock that’s both more rental-heavy and less historic than you find on blocks to the east. Not that there aren’t plenty of great buildings here, in what’s still a pretty great Ravenswood location. They might not be cutting-edge, but these homes will be an improvement for the corner, and it’s nice to see some life in this pocket, which has been dragged down by the defunct Ravenswood Hospital site even as Damen Avenue generally has picked up.
