North Siders aren't immune to housing crisis

Although it pales in comparison to the foreclosure-cancer map of West Lawn that Joe Zekas posted last week, this map of Avondale shows one North-Side neighborhood that’s looking particularly vulnerable to the foreclosure epidemic.

The map is from RealtyTrac.com, a Web site that enables users to search for distressed homes throughout the country, and it includes pre-foreclosure, bank-owned, government-owned, and homes that are up for auction. According to the site, there are currently 619 foreclosures in Avondale’s 60618 zip code, and a total of 1,091 homes in the neighborhood fall into one of the other pre-foreclosure categories.

A look at Redfin’s market report for Avondale also shows some somewhat distressing data. Median sale prices have dipped to more than $50 per square foot below listing prices, and 44 percent of condos and single-families in the neighborhood have had price reductions in the past 90 days, according to the site.
