Olympia Centre Chicago's only kosher condo tower?

Olympia Centre1.jpgOlympia Centre was considered the height of luxury by many when it opened in 1986. It’s long since been bumped in the ranks by other high-profile buildings, but it still wins in one category. The Reichmann family, owners of development company Olympia & York, decided that no construction would take place on Olympia Centre, 161 E Chicago Ave, during the Sabbath, preferring higher interest rates to overtime labor costs. While the motivations might have been less than reverential, Olympia Centre is, as far as we know, the only “kosher” high-rise condo in the city. As if that wasn’t enough, our exacting friends at Emporis tell us that Olympia Centre is the tallest mid-block building in the city. Presently, Rubloff lists several Olympia units for sale, including a 1,904-square-foot unit on the 49th floor for $935,000.
