Optima plans 3 Skokie towers

Optima, Inc., the development and design firm behind a sizeable chunk of Evanston’s mini-skyline, plans to build three of its cool modern towers in Skokie, along the Edens Expressway.

The development will total around 700 units in three 20-story highrises, a massive project for the settled suburb just north of Chicago. “Optima Old Orchard Woods” will offer condos with one to three bedrooms priced from around the $240s to the $550s and penthouses of 1,246 to 2,752 square feet priced from the $480s to more than $1 million.

David Hovey, president of Optima and an architecture professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, is known for his sleek modern designs. This project will prove no exception, with a wall of glass and aluminum that will reflect the sky, and dramatic cutouts that will provide units with ample light and air while giving the development a signature look.

Construction is slated to start in December, with first occupancy in spring of ’06.
