Pho soup's sake

Not that a bowl of the classic Vietnamese soup, pho, isn’t delectable in the dog days of summer (and it is), but when the weather turns ugly–like now–it’s almost mandatory. The rich and fragrant concoction, with thin slices of beef and cilantro floating in it, might make you forget about chicken noodle forever. There are several great spots in Uptown, especially on Argyle Street east of Broadway, where there is a cluster of Vietnamese restaurants and bakeries. For your first time, try Pho 777 at 1065 W. Argyle St. (773-561-9909). That’s right–they named the restaurant after the soup. And remember, when you go–say Fah, not Foe.
