Roti relative makes a fortune from failed Blue Bag Program

In a post yesterday, we mentioned how a New York Times story praising Chicago’s environmentally friendly approach to development and civic life failed to mention the city’s failed Blue Bag Program. The Chicago Sun-Times illustrates today just how big a hole that was with a story about Fred Bruno Barbara, a friend of Mayor Richard M. Daley’s and grandson of Bruno Roti Sr., named by the FBI as a major organized crime boss. The Rotis were hip deep in the city’s corrupt hired truck program, and Barbara has made a killing off the Blue Bag Program, in which no more than 13 percent of Chicagoans participate.
