Construction is underway and the official grand opening won’t be for a couple of weeks, but the Velvet Lounge will be hosting live music tonight in its new location, 67 E Cermak Rd. The closure of the divey old bar, a favorite of local jazz buffs, was a tragedy for the increasingly sanitized South Loop, and given the way prices have been rising in the neighborhood, it looked like owner Fred Anderson wouldn’t be able to afford a new space. Fans and friends came to the rescue, and Anderson found a new home, which is still in progress, on Cermak. Check it out tonight when Isaiah Spencer and Friends will play, or tomorrow, when Greg Ward and Friends will take the stage.
