State board wants to raise bar for home inspectors

At some point, home inspection became what painting used to be, the easy occupation of choice for people without much experience or knowledge to make money in the housing industry with virtually no investment; a flashlight and clipboard are even cheaper than a good paintbrush and roller. There are plenty of good home inspectors, but as their number has tripled in Illinois during the last three years, the number of charlatans has multiplied. A state board wants to raise the requirements for becoming a licensed inspector, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune, and we couldn’t agree more.
