Suffer the cow but not the cocoa in the West Loop

blommerchocolate.jpgAmid all the fuss about the EPA forcing Blommer to implement pollution abatement measures that will curtail the sweet whiff of cocoa in the West Loop, no one really mentioned the fact that in summer all you can smell in the Fulton Market district is dead cow. By August, the smell of blood from the slaughterhouses really asserts itself and probably spoils many a yuppie’s tofu-burger cookout. West Loop resident Liz Morrell, who manages Jupiter Outpost, a cute little cafe next door to Mars Gallery, tells Yo that she escapes the stench by spending a lot of time on the building’s roof in August (Morrell also lives in the building.) Morrell thinks it’s a small price to pay for living in such a wonderfully eclectic neighborhood and many loft-dwellers and new condo buyers in the West Loop probably agree. But Yo thinks that if the cow can stay, why can’t the cocoa?
