The "Front Porch" dialogues

This three-duplex development in Lincoln Park sparked one of the livelier conversation threads last week. Despite the spacious floorplans and designer architect, most readers didn’t seem to think this place was worth the price tag. Commenters judged the building to be “way too narrow” and likened it to “an office complex.”

Below is the floorplan for unit 2E of 2736 Southport, which faces the street. The master and second bedrooms are on the third floor, while the kitchen and living rooms are on the second, and both floors have balconies that face Southport.

And in response to the “office complex” critique, we have this quote from the Funke Architects Web site:

The “Front Porch” is an important aspect of residential living, which creates a dialogue with the street and the neighboring buildings.

Consider them dialogic balconies.
