We like to watch: Ravenswood Victorian

Ravenswood Victorian

Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood is one of the hippest on the North Side, a magnet of shopping and dining in the sometimes bleak commercial landscape of the larger Edgewater and Uptown area.

This three-bedroom two-bath house at 1520 W Ainslie St, described in the listing as being in Andersonville, is by our reckoning in Ravenswood, a few blocks south of Foster Avenue, Andersonville’s southern border. But we’re noticing that more and more people are calling that area Andersonville as the neighborhood’s Clark Street retail mecca pushes south towards Lawrence Avenue.

But Ravenswood is a strong selling point all on its own, with gorgeous tree-lined streets and some terrific single-family houses. This yellow Victorian, with hardwood floors, a pedestal sink one the bathroom and an oak staircase, trim and doors. Updates include central air, forced heat and new windows. There’s room to expand in the unfinished attic and partially finished basement.

John Diebel of Sudler Sotheby’s International Realty has the property listed for $599,000 – a pretty good deal based on prices we’ve seen on other Victorians in the area. .
