We had to wait until Good Friday to tell you about an old-fashioned switcheroo in the works in Wicker Park. The Chicago Journal reports the building that formerly housed the New Light Missionary Baptist Church at 2157 W Potomac Ave could be replaced by something the W.P really needs… more condos. Both the Wicker Park Committee and the Commission on Chicago Landmarks agreed that the water-damaged building, which had been altered too much to be considered an historic landmark, should be demolished. Like Pavlovian dogs, the folks at Green Street Properties have already begun salivating over the property: they’ve proposed constructing a not particularly salvational three-unit condo building over the razed church.
