Marcel Freides-designed home sells in DePaul

It had been about 15 years since I last spoke with architect Marcel Freides. He’d since moved to one of the spectacular canyons off Mulholland Dr outside Woodland Hills, CA. I’ve driven those canyons many times in recent years, and probably passed his home repeatedly, not realizing he’d moved there.

What prompted my call to Marcel was chancing upon the above video, shot about a year ago at a home he’d designed 15 years ago. The home, at 2049 N Kenmore, closed a month ago for $1,755,000. The Victorian facade gives no clue of the light-filled spaces that lie behind it.

While many local architects have moved on to other occupations, Marcel is still actively working on a long-distance basis on projects in Chicago, and locally in California.
