The Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) is a professional designation granted by the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council of the National Association of Realtors.
In my long experience, two out of every three real estate agents who claim to hold the ABR designation are lying about it. The industry does little to police what strikes me as rampant misrepresentation of its professional designations.
Before working with an agent who purports to be an ABR, check them out. An agent who lies about something so basic and easily checked is likely to lie about almost anything. Avoid that agent.

REBAC would like to thank you for recommending consumers to use an ABR® when purchasing a home. We currently have over 40,000 active members, and do appreciate those members who value the integrity of our designation, by reporting these individuals to REBAC who mislead the public.
Nancy,
Nice attempt at spin – now show me where, exactly, I made the recommendation you mention. I said no such thing. In fact, I pay no attention to whether an agent is an ABR® when making a personal recommendation.
My experience has been that the ABR® designation is most often sought by inexperienced agents. An agent only needs 5 completed buyer transactions, and minimal coursework, to begin using the ABR® designation. The ABR® has the additional benefits of being low cost and satisfying continuing education requirements in a number of states.
How about addressing my substantive points: agents often lie about the designation and the industry does little to police those lies.
I thought I was just lazy not by not enrolling and paying for these designations… turns out I’m just honest!
