Earlier posts in our series on the best apartment towers in River North concentrated on their location. We spotlighted the buildings with the best views, the most convenient grocery shopping, the best access to retail shops, public transit, parks and beaches , the expressway grid, the most nearby dining and nightlife, and the shortest walking distance to the Loop.
We then shifted focus to the buildings themselves, beginning with affordability, the topic that’s top-of-mind with many renters, and moving on to the best building amenities, boutique ambiance, and the most pet-friendly environment.
In our final group of posts, we turned our attention to the apartments, beginning with apartment finishes and features.
River North buildings offer a good selection of apartments with private balconies and terraces. There are apartments with spectacular views and private terraces larger than the yards in many single-family homes in the city – but they rarely become available for rent.
We’ve had one top-of-mind consideration in selecting the River North building with the best outdoor space: does the building generally have one or more units available with large balconies or terraces?
Grand Plaza is the clear choice for private outdoor space. Almost all of the units have good-sized balconies and two of the 2-bedroom floor plans have private balconies that are more than 30 feet wide. When we checked a few days ago there were 7 of each of those two-bedroom plan available for rent. Rents ranged from $3,384 to $3,637.
Grand Plaza also has quite a few units with private terraces and rambling wrap-around balconies.
