Striking 300 North LaSalle office high-rise engages river

Click for larger imageThis is Hines Interests‘ glassy new 300 North LaSalle, a 60-story office building that will have pole position on the Chicago River and should be an attractive addition to the skyline. You won’t be able to live there of course (unless you’re an attorney for the building’s anchor tenant, the law firm Kirkland and Ellis, in which case you’ll be pulling plenty of all-nighters and may as well think of it as home), but we wanted to show you an interesting addition to the skyline.

The tower was designed by Connecticut-based architectural firm Pickard Chilton. It has a stainless steel curtain wall sheathed in glass, and the side of the building is deftly stepped to create a striking rectangular groove. The apex of the structure is capped with a flying buttress.Click for larger imageAnother exciting aspect of the project is the two-level riverfront plaza that invites Chicagoans to engage with both the building and our oft-overlooked river, just as Trump Tower and Waterview Tower promise to do. Jim Walsh of Hines Interests, tells Yo’s truly that 300 North LaSalle’s plaza, which is the work of Ted Wolf Landscape, will feature a cafe, outdoor seating, trees and landscaping.
