SoNo certainly calls attention to itself. As Mark noted in a post last month, Smithfield Properties‘ tower at 860 W Blackhawk St looks a little lonely without its twin (which might go up next year), but there’s no doubt that the lone high-rise dominates the Near North Side skyline. It’s hard to miss from the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street, which I cross whenever I make a long stroll to the Chicago Blue Line stop. Heck, I can even see it through the north-facing window of the Yo office at this very moment.
The 28-story building topped out in the past month, and crews have put in glass on all but its top two floors. When complete, the first tower will have 200 one- to three-bedroom condos. Mark reported last month that about half of those units were still available at prices ranging from the $270s to the $570s.
