Deal of the day: The Columbian extends parking incentive to all two-bedrooms

The Columbian, 1160 S Michigan AveOf all the South Loop high-rises we’ve covered over the past year, the one we’ve mentioned the least is The Columbian, Neighborhood Rejuvenation Partners’ 46-story tower at 1160 S Michigan Ave. Our last update was in February, when developers were packaging parking spaces valued at $42,000 with a handful of the building’s two-bedroom condos.

That incentive now applies to all remaining two-bedrooms, which make up the majority of The Columbian’s unsold homes. Sales manager Bridget McClendon says the homes range from 1,231 to 1,800 square feet, and are listed from the $450s up to $1.09 million. They’re spread throughout the building, including the eastern side, which has an unobstructed view of the lake and Grant Park.

The tower also has a few one-bedroom and three-bedroom units available, McClendon says.

DeStefano & Partners‘ subdued design and the tower’s orange-brick exterior drew mixed reactions from readers back in the day. Comments ran the gamut from “the best built building in the South Loop in some time, as far as material quality, etc.” to “solid (although not spectacular)” to “flavor of the month from a decade ago.” Now that it’s been a part of the skyline for more than a year, have those opinions changed?
