Is demand plummeting or back to normal?

Crain’s Chicago Business reports today on the slumping housing market.

A chart accompanying the story carries the scare headline of “Demand plummets,” with the city down 14.5% year over year.

Look a little more closely at the chart and you’ll see that sales are still well above the levels that prevailed from 2001 to 2004, which were also boom years in city new construction.

Is the media reporting a housing slump or simply making it up?
