Chicago's luxury rentals are a big hit

It seems that everywhere you turn these days there is a luxury rental building going up. First there was the conversion of The Bernadin, then came The Shoreham over at Lakeshore East, and now MDA Chicago City Apartments is coming on the market.

The Shoreham is being hailed as “The lease-up story of the year.” It only went on the market last year but units are being leased out at the staggering rate of 40 a month and it’s already 90 percent leased. It’s in a pretty sweet location, right near the lake at Wacker Drive and Randolph Street.

We hear that The Shoreham is particularly popular with younger single women who are moving to Chicago for a first or second job and want to experience living downtown. The amenities apparently include a “games room,” with board games, which we thought sounded sort of old-fashioned and quaint. Kind of like that ’50s resort featured in Dirty Dancing.

Hope they find their Patrick Swayze and have the time of their lives.
