Craigslist’s top ten Chicago apartment spammers

by Joe Zekas on 5/19/14

Craigslist doesn’t allow ads to be posted more than once every 48 hours and prohibits keyword spam, i.e. the use of irrelevant terms in ads to draw attention to them. Illinois law prohibits advertising property without written authorization.

Over-posted ads, ads stuffed with irrelevant keywords and unauthorized ads are spam. You wouldn’t respond to spam email and you shouldn’t risk responding to Craigslist spam ads. We’ve identified the ten most prolific Craigslist apartment ad spammers to make it easy for you to avoid them:

  • Chicagoland Property Group
  • State Street Properties
  • Kale Realty
  • American Realty
  • Homestead Group
  • Downtown Apartment Company
  • Apartment Source
  • Live Here Chicago
  • Spaces Property Group
  • Trudo Realty
  • Start your Craigslist apartment search by clicking YoChicago’s Craigslist spam reducer and you’ll eliminate more than 10,000 ads from the top six spammers on our list.

You’ll find almost all of the properties in Craigslist spam ads (and a lot more) on YoChicago’s at-a-glance apartment lists.

Craigslist spam is just one of the obnoxious and illegal behaviors that earn rental services a/k/a apartment locators a/k/a apartment finders a spot on YoChicago’s do-not-call list. Consult that list when you’re unsure whether an ad has been placed by a property or by a rental service. Dozens of rental services advertise the same properties. The only way to ensure that you’re getting accurate information and know where your application stands is to work directly with the property.

The managing broker, Carolyn Anavi or Ridge, at Live Here Realty will cut her agents commission by 5% for 2 weeks if they don’t post 100 ads a week. Craigslist ads are counted weekly. and the rule is strictly enforced. I imagine the other places enforce a similar policy.

That company is nonsense! They totally took advantage of a good friend of mine, took more than 2 weeks to refund her money back to her after she backed out of a deal with them, and she was a total pain dealing with throughout the process (Yes CAROLYN ANAVI, YOU WERE AND ARE)!
    Never again.

I wonder how Baird & Warner would feel about State Street Properties posting illegal MLS advertisements on Craigslists?
